I made it! After 12 hours of travel, I made it to the CCS house in San Carlos. My layovers from my flights were not even layovers - they consisted of me running from flight to flight, but I made them all, and so did my luggage, so what else could I ask for?!
From the airport, it was a 2 hour drive to San Carlos. It was a really rough drive - hills, bumpy roads, twists & turns... ugh I'm getting sick just thinking about it again. But I think it's important to see the countryside, because it's a lot of poverty. There's house upon house everywhere here. Part of the reason I like traveling like this is that it gives me perspective on my life and the lives of Americans. All of my worries seem so silly compared to what I see here.
But in good news, my housemates are really great so far. I'm rooming with 3 other girls, and there are 35 people here total. Everyone seems to be getting along really well so far. The house is really neat. There's a courtyard in the middle where we eat, so basically alfresco dining for every meal! There are also geckos climbing all over the walls here, which is definitely not something I see everyday! :)
One other thought - if you ever feel unloved, leave the country. Haha that sounds terrible, but I've been overwhelmed with all the well wishes and love I've received from friends and family as I was leaving for this trip. Not that I ever doubt it, but it just warms my heart to to receive all this love. :)
So far, so good! I'm excited for what's to come.
